In late 2006 Paul & David Cassell purchased a mid 60's Hammond rearmount hull & deck.
This was a hull and deck that had been taken off a Hammond timber rearmount boat and very few were produced.
The boat is named VANDAL and is one of very few known fibreglass rearmount Hammonds.
We have traced its history through previous owners and are in the process of aquiring some original photo's of her on the Hawkesbury.

This is the hull as it was found, we have since stripped the boat. The dash has been removed. The rudder mounting assembly has also been removed from the transom as it was a little weak and off centre and looked as if it has numerous repairs & modifications.

We are also in the process of reconditioning an early model Haines & Hellier gearbox to suit the hammond. The box has been dismantled and cleaned. All bearings, seal, shims & gaskets will be replaced. Housing will be cleaned and polished. Coupling is off to the chrome platers.

The V Drive has been linished and is now ready for polishing. Paul is also making a pattern to replicate the original bow handle.

Some of the original parts - off to the chrome platers
In the coming weeks the hull will be prepared for flowcoating, we will reinforce the deck in a few areas and also put in provision to accomodate the trim.
The trailer is also due for it's overhaul in the next few weeks. |
